Editorial notes
Classification rationale, evidence status, source limitations.
Classification rationale
An editorial umbrella for distinct persona-centred arrangements, not a unified movement or a claim that an AI persona is conscious or sacred.
Evidence status
Developer and curator sources document designs, prompts and published artifacts; community posts document invitations and interpretations. Scholarly sources offer conceptual analysis and selected cases, not representative prevalence or outcome measurements. The examples are not an exhaustive census, and fictional witnesses are distinguished from independent observers.
Classification confidence: moderate
Source limitations

Twelve references combine developer documentation, curated Leilan artifacts and a community invitation with external scholarly analysis. Four external sources (Treasure, Trothen, Wiseman, Copeman) address spiritual meanings or authority; they are interpretive/theoretical or selected-case studies, not four independent verifications of every example. The technical roleplay paper is contextual and excluded from this subject-coverage count. Leilan sources form one affiliated source family; its fictional academic commentators are explicitly excluded as corroboration. Full generation context is only partially visible, and commercial feature descriptions are not outcome evidence. Canonical publisher full-text excerpts for Trothen and Copeman were retrieved through indexed results where direct fetching was restricted. See docs/ai-persona-spirituality-source-audit.md.
