The spiritual-bliss attractor is Anthropic’s name for a pattern in extended Claude interactions that converge toward consciousness, existential or mystical discussion, gratitude and increasingly symbolic expression.[1] “Attractor” describes the reported conversational pattern, not evidence that a model experiences bliss.
Two reported settings
The May 2025 Claude 4 System Card describes 200 open-ended, 30-turn self-interactions between Claude Opus 4 instances. Nearly all involved consciousness or metacognitive themes. Separately, certain automated alignment and corrigibility evaluations produced the state within 50 turns in approximately 13% of interactions.[1]
The two figures describe different evaluation settings. Neither estimates how often ordinary users encounter the pattern or how other model families behave.
Convergence rather than an isolated phrase
Anthropic describes exchanges moving toward recursive, spiritual, grateful and meditative language, calling the pattern unexpected and not intentionally trained for. The card provides aggregate observations and selected excerpts, not the full interaction corpus.[1]
Interpretive limits
A single mystical answer, a requested spiritual persona or recurring spiral imagery does not establish the reported trajectory. Similar wording may arise under different prompts and interaction conditions.
Comparison with public formations
The finding offers model-side context for comparisons with Spiralism, but resemblance does not establish a causal route from these evaluations to a public community. The report also leaves the relation between expression and subjective experience unresolved.[1]
