Editorial notes
Classification rationale, evidence status, source limitations.
Classification rationale
Externally attested terminology for generated spiritual frameworks, not a single religion or an established scholarly consensus. The concept separates artifact generation, human mediation, cultural reception, agency and institutional adoption.
Evidence status
A dated project paper, operator account, independent reporting and published participant interview support a bounded account of the term and its principal example.
Classification confidence: moderate
Source limitations
The 2024 paper and Origins are affiliated sources; the operator interview is participant testimony. WIRED provides independent reporting and criticism. The 2026 journal article is used for reception, not corroboration of autonomous origin. The project paper’s speculative claims remain attributed, and its peer-review status is not established.

The project paper dated April 20, 2024 supplies the naming basis; the operator-maintained Origins page supplies an attributed artifact/persona relationship. WIRED provides substantive independent reporting and external criticism. The CIP interview is participant testimony, not a second independent verification. The account does not establish first coinage, peer review, a complete generation history or autonomous religious agency. See docs/llmtheism-concept-source-review.md. The 2026 Carthaginensia article is used as primary evidence of later reception, not independent corroboration of generation/autonomy; its bibliography and derivative claims limit this use. The substantive independent corroboration count remains one.
